Each year, humpback whales travel to the warm waters surrounding the Samaná Peninsula to mate, give birth, and care for their young, creating a remarkable opportunity to observe these magnificent marine mammals in their natural environment.

Your adventure begins with an early pickup from your Punta Cana hotel. Relax during the approximately two-hour drive through the Dominican countryside to La Cañita Harbor in Miches, where you will board a comfortable boat or catamaran and begin your journey toward Samaná Bay.

Our experienced captain and crew know the waters and the areas where humpback whales are most frequently observed. Your knowledgeable tour guide will also share fascinating information about humpback whale migration, behavior, communication, breeding, and the importance of protecting these incredible animals.

Once whales are located, the boat will approach carefully while maintaining responsible viewing practices. Depending on nature and conditions that day, you may witness whales surfacing, mothers swimming with their calves, tail flukes disappearing beneath the water, powerful breaches, or males displaying and communicating during the breeding season.

After your whale-watching experience, the adventure continues to beautiful Cayo Levantado, one of Samaná’s most famous tropical islands. After your time at Cayo Levantado, you will board the boat for the return journey to Miches, where your transportation will be waiting to take you comfortably back to your Punta Cana hotel.
